Welcome to Theatre Arts!

By request! A skill building academic theatre program that engages young artists from beginners to professionals prepping for auditions. Artistic Director Leslie Nolte (a graduate of the UI Theatre program) has created an exciting lineup of classes and workshops designed to help students develop their craft and reach peak performance goals.

For 1st and 2nd Graders

Onstage
An exploratory look at the elements of theatre; movement, ensemble building exercises and developmental acting exercises that will help to enrich and encourage creativity in a fun and playful environment.   

Musical Jam
Explore the exciting elements of fundamental musical theatre. We will use our bodies, voices and creative selves to help discover stories through singing, dancing and scene work.  

Sing Disney
An introduction to the structure of the human voice. Develop the skills of tone, pitch accuracy and vocal expressions using fun and creative music from some of today’s most popular hits!  

For 3rd and 4th Graders

Onstage
Continue your training in the theatre realm with this fun and interactive class! We will continue to focus on ensemble and developmental acting exercise, using our imaginations to create scenes, characters and scripts, while continuing to develop the basic principles of the theatre and stage.

Musical Jam
Musical theatre takes a center spotlight as we begin to dive into the world of singing, dancing and acting. Intense focus on movement, sound resonation and healthy vocal technique will be an instrumental part of this class. Actors will also begin to dive into the movements, sounds and body language of their characters, songs and scenes.

Sing Glee
Discover and enhance the power of the human voice through contemporary pop and musical theatre songs. We will focus on vocal and musical intonation as well as continuing to work on vocal expression and basic vocal breathing techniques.  

For 5th and 6th Graders (semesters)

Acting 1/Acting 2
Actors begin to explore the world of a play, including character and textual analysis through fun and interactive theatre exercises. Actors continue to cement their understanding of environment and atmosphere of the theatre and play as well as continue to cement their terminology and voice/speech techniques.  

Musical Theatre 1/Musical Theatre 2
A fun and interactive combo track that offers the best of all three worlds; dance, acting and singing. Actors will begin to develop the techniques for combining their singing, dancing and acting skills culminating in a showcase of popular musical theatre scenes/songs.  

Broadway Voice 1/Broadway Voice 2
Explore the world of Broadway, Disney and Contemporary Music! Singer’s will dive into the world of popular Broadway and contemporary hits focusing on healthy diaphragmatic breathing techniques and proper vocal placement for a sustainable and healthy vocal production.  

For 7th and 8th Graders (semesters)

Acting 1/Acting 2
Actors will continue to learn how to use their bodies to effectively deliver their character’s personality and storyline. Added attention will be given to the dissection of text’s and character intention and objective’s within a scene or storyline.  

Musical Theatre 1/Musical Theatre 2
Continuing to enhance the “triple threat” performance base, actors will work on  solos, scenes and mashups from popular musicals. This fun and engaging class will begin to meld more complex vocal and movement based combinations culminating in a musical theatre showcase.

Broadway Voice 1/Broadway Voice 2
Have fun with this vocal boot camp! From Classic Broadway to Contemporary Pop/Rock hits, this boot camp will help enhance technique as well as help singers explore and understand the mechanics of how the human voice works.

Junior Musical Theatre Intensive (Audition Based)
An intensive performance based class aimed at kids who have had previous technique training and exhibit excellent acting, singing and dance techniques. During this semester based class we will continue to develop strong musical theatre techniques while working our way through a contemporary musical, culminating in a production of the selected material at the end of the semester.  

For 9th through 12th Graders (semesters)

Acting 1/Acting 2
Dive into the works of contemporary and classic playwrights. Actors will specifically focus on Meisner and Chekov acting techniques, while continuing to explore and create poignant theatrical work.

Musical Theatre 1/Musical Theatre 2
From Fosse to Sondheim to Schwartz, this Musical Theatre class will focus on the principles and techniques of musical theatre, while cementing good technique and sustainable practice and performance techniques. Students will continue to meld their “triple threat” performance base.  

Scene Study/Monologue Prep
A study on contemporary and classic scene work. Actors will continue to cement their theatrical techniques diving into focused ensemble and monologue work.

Broadway Voice Sr.
An intensive study into the songs of Broadway. Continue to develop and strengthen the human voice through a myriad of classic and contemporary musical theatre repertoire.

Acting Intensive (by audition only)
An intensive performance based class aimed at kids who have had previous technique training and exhibit excellent acting and voice/speech techniques. During this semester based class we will continue to develop strong acting techniques while working our way through a contemporary play, culminating in a production of the selected material at the end of the semester.

Musical Theatre Intensive (by audition only)
An intensive performance based class aimed at kids who have had previous technique training and exhibit excellent acting, singing and dance techniques. During this semester based class we will continue to develop strong musical theatre techniques while working our way through a contemporary musical, culminating in a production of the selected material at the end of the semester.  

Pre Professional/Audition Prep
(Private coaching by individual appointment)
Enhance your vocal and acting skills with this one on one individualized lesson plan. Perfect for students that are either preparing for college/talent auditions or crave an individualized lesson plan. Individual vocal/theatrical lessons are available at request for students that are interested.
